I woke up with very sore achilles heels (especially the left) and instead of the hamstrings being excruciatingly sore, it was my quads. I thought about hitting up a noon hot yoga class, or even trying to run, but even after 3 aspirin, I still felt sore, so instead of getting out in the dreary weather, I decided to try my Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown DVD that I got for Christmas.
She's one of my girl crushes...Shes upfront about her bisexuality and shes trying to adopt so that makes her even more admirable in my book! |
There are 2 workouts, 1 beginner and an advanced. I went for the beginner today to check it out. |
She also has 2 assistants, 1 who shows the beginner version of the pose and another who shows the more advanced. |
All in all I liked the 30 minute practice. I think if you have never done yoga you might want to just go through it with no expectations to begin with, watch and try the poses but maybe not try and keep up so much.
I prefer Bikram/hot yoga and its simplicity (and by this I mean you have the pose, you do it and you stay there no matter how hard, uncomfortable or sweaty you are) of static poses (and not being so 'flowy'; this reminded me more of hatha or vinyasa which I dont like) and more focus on the complexity and balance of each, but this was definitely a good workout when you don't want to get out of the house or you are pressed for time.
It definitely stretched out the parts that needed to be stretched and I feel better in my quads already.
Now what to do, what to do....

I do this one & her abs dvd all the time, especially before work. Love that its just 30 mins a workout.
We all could probably use more yoga - but it kills me, so unflexible.
Hmmm, this might be a good one to try. Thanks for the review!
oo i might want to try this out! i need to do more yoga!
Ah see I love vinyasa and Hatha yoga:) Although I'm pretty easygoing when it comes to yoga as I've liked every single class I've tried! Have you done the P90X yoga workout? Lots of static holds in that 90-min sucker!
Sorry about your Achilles heel. Ever thought about changing the type of socks you wear during your runs or for post-recovery? We've got a client that produces compression socks and could arrange for you to try out a pair to see if that helps.
dude I love this dvd!!! I do it in the morning if I don't wanna work out and since I'm all out of shape I get supah sore!
